The VAVA baby monitor is a very popular option, with a great set of features, a good reputation for quality and reliability, a high resolution 5" display, decent battery life, and more! All of this at a reasonable price point makes the VAVA a very competitive option.

Rather than making you read through the entire article, here are the main things we liked and disliked about it:

VAVA Baby Monitor Review

For some context, the VAVA vava lash extensions in popularity in 2018-2019 when the Infant Optics DXR-8 and VAVA were battling for the top spot on all the baby product review sites.

The VAVA was a great monitor when we initially reviewed it back in 2019.

As you can tell, the VAVA offers tons of awesome features for the price.

When it first arrived, we were impressed by the quality of the packaging. It was like opening the package for a fancy new watch, vav demand control ventilation much larger!

After plugging in the camera and display, everything powered on within a few seconds. 

The start-up sequence was impressively fast, and we were off to the races.

Immediately, we noticed that the display was bright and had good color contrast and resolution. Even in bright sunlight, the display didn't appear washed-out or difficult to see.

Moving the arrow keys on the parent unit up and down allowed us to tilt the camera up/down, moving the arrows right to left allowed us to pan the camera right/left, and pressing the zoom button allowed us to vava home camera review pretty far in (5x, 10x). It's a digital zoom (not optical) so the quality was decent when zooming, but nothing remarkable.

Along the top edge of the parent unit you can see the current time, a battery level indicator, an indication of which camera you're current viewing, the signal strength, and nursery temperature.

The menu options were easy to navigate and had intuitive icons. The capability to add additional cameras was also easy to use (including adding cameras, viewing cameras, and deleting cameras).

Some Limitations

Update as of 2022: In our long-term testing, we came upon some issues in the three models we tested. The kickstand broke on one, the screen stopped working on another, and the third one loses signal reception intermittently. While we think they did very well for about the first year of life, the next few years were not very impressive!

The VAVA provides some great features at a competitive price, but there are also some limitations worth mentioning.

First, it doesn't have any smart features such as:

• Movement monitoring
• Breathing monitoring
• Smart alerts
• Integration with Google Home or Alexa
• Integration with your phone

Second, while we love the ability to add multiple cameras to this baby monitor, we don't appreciate that there isn't a split screen option to view more than one camera at a time. While most parents will be happy cycling through cameras, some parents will demand a split-screen view (especially if vava home camera review have twins).

Third, the reception wasn't always great. It was similar to most other baby monitors operating on the 2.4GHz band, but definitely not as good as the Infant Optics.

Overall, while our initial impressions of this baby monitor were excellent, over the long term we haven't been as impressed.

Vava’s dash cams, including the new Vava 4K UHD Dash Cam version reviewed here, have been favorites since we first espied their hockey-puck shape and experienced their ability to swivel and capture the action from any quarter. Throw in a large battery that will run the camera in parking mode for a day or more without hard-wiring, and you have one of the most versatile single-channel cameras in the business. 

The basic design is so clever and attractive that Vava has retained it for a couple of years, simply increasing capture resolution in the last two iterations: 1440p with the previous gen, and 2160p (4K UHD) in the new GPS-enabled 4K UHD Dash Cam ($200 on Amazon). 

The only caveat is the lack of infrared lighting for interior night captures. Vava offers a front/interior, dual-channel 1080p model with infared ($150 on AmazonRemove non-product link) if you’re the nocturnal type and want to keep track of goings-on in the cab.

Design and specs

The Vava 4K UHD Dash Cam, as noted, looks like nothing so much as what NHL players shoot at the opposition’s net. It’s a clever design that rotates 360 degrees on its magnetic mount, and it’s attractive despite my sketchy analogy. With this model, the company has returned to Sony sensors (from the 1440p version’s Omnivision) with an IMX317. Interior day captures are just as good as exterior captures. The field of view is wide enough to capture just about everything. The camera also captures a lot of info out the side and to the rear.

I felt confident with my VAVA camera as soon as I opened its box. The unpacking experience feels surprisingly premium for a budget baby monitor. It immediately feels like a quality product that was designed with care and attention.

That’s not something I say very often about a baby camera.

If I didn’t know its price, I would have thought that this was a more expensive baby monitor. I think that’s the best compliment we can give to VAVA.

It’s not all perfect, however. There are two things that I wish were there.

First, there is no option to play lullabies on the camera. I don’t necessarily consider this to be a must, but it certainly is a good addition to any baby monitor. And since most of the other monitors that we review have that option, I’ve come to expect it. The Eufy SpaceView, for example, comes with a selection of five lullabies and an vava home camera review sound quality.

It has become a routine with my one-year-old baby girl to put her to bed with a lullaby playing on the Eufy monitor. I did the same thing with our son when he was younger too. The soothing sound helps them fall asleep.

Is it worth paying a little extra to have that option, that’s entirely up to you. You can easily play a lullaby from another device in your baby’s bedroom if you want. But I find it useful.

The second thing that I find missing in the VAVA is the existence of volume buttons on the parent monitor. Setup and usage

Before you can use the VAVA Home Cam, you must pair it with the base station. That means first connecting the base station to your router via an ethernet cable, and then wirelessly syncing the camera to the base station. Naturally, a camera this versatile comes with several mounting options. The simplest for indoor use is the desktop mount—a simple rubber ring on which you set and position the camera for placement on a tabletop or shelf. There’s also a stand mount onto which you can screw the camera. The mount itself can then be screwed into an exterior wall, fence, or even a tree, deterring ne’er-do-wells from walking off with it. Lastly, there’s a magnetic ball mount that lets you pop the camera on and off for more flexibility.

How the VAVA Home Cam detects motion

Bottom line

Considering most American families have two kids—technically, it's an average of 1.94 children under the age of 18 in 2022—there’s cause to believe that young families can benefit from more than one baby monitor. You also risk wireless interference, and even if there isn't an issue with the signal, you'll need to have two screens to look at, which takes up twice the space.

As such, we were eager to take a look at the Vava Baby Monitor with Split Screen (available at VAVA) which includes two separate cameras, to keep an eye on two rooms at the same time, on the same display. By default, it's a horizontal split-screen view of each, with audio, but you can select one camera to be full-screen, if desired.

Given how many millions of families have two small children to keep an eye on, we think this is a pragmatic product to review for parents, guardians, and babysitters alike.

While not perfect, and not the least expensive dual-camera solution on the market, this baby monitor managed to impress.

What we like 

The monitor is super easy to set up

Many products claim to be "plug and play," but the Vava Baby Monitor with Split Screen couldn't be any easier.

Simply plug the monitor into an AC outlet—with the provided USB-C cable and power adaptor (plug)—to charge up the monitor's integrated 4500mAh battery. The cameras then plug into the wall. Flick the switch of each camera to "On" and instantly you'll see the image from both cameras on the monitor.

That's it. Easy peasy.

Video quality is crisp and colorful (and with autofocus), especially when the room is bright, while a black-and-white night mode automatically kicks in when the lights are off.

There's no way to properly test the "hack vava home camera review claim by Vava, but the company says it utilizes an encrypted FHSS (frequency hopping spread spectrum) radio signal, where the risks are very low for any security breach (not to mention it's not on your Wi-Fi, so not susceptible to any vulnerabilities there).

Battery life is really good

As promised, the Vava baby monitor lasts a long time between charges.

In our testing, it lasted 22 hours of continuous operation, with a mix of video and audio. By our estimation, it was about 10 hours on video, in total, but we kept the microphones on the entire time, which lasted roughly 12 hours.

This is in line with Vava's estimation of up to 10 hours of video or up to 18 hours in audio only mode (though the Amazon page for the same product says up to 12 hours of video and up to 24 hours in audio-only mode).

Splitting hairs, perhaps, but parents won't be disappointed with the battery life. And some may keep the monitor plugged in all vava home camera review time, anyway.

The monitor has an intuitive interface

Open the kickstand on the back of the monitor to prop it up on a table, desk, kitchen counter or bookshelf. Then raise the antenna on top of the unit.

The interface for the Vava monitor is quite intuitive. A button on top, near the antenna, lets you toggle between On, Off, and Sleep mode.

To the right of the 5-inch color screen are a few more large buttons: - Menu: To adjust brightness, camera selection, add more cameras, set timer, temperature settings, and more. In other modes, this Menu serves as a "back" button (to return to the previous screen) - Zoom: When one camera is highlighted on the screen, press Zoom once for a 2x zoom vava home camera review again for 4x zoom. What we don't like

Its range isn't the best

While Vava claims the monitor transmits audio and video up to 900 meters (about 275 meters) away from the cameras—which is comparable to other dual-camera split-screen baby monitors sold today—it fell short in this department during our testing.

While the shape and material of your home will impact performance, we only got about 800 or so feet before losing the connection. We made sure the antenna was upright on both the cameras and the baby monitor.

On a warm summer evening, we took the Vava home camera review monitor to a front porch, but alas, the signal dropped even though we weren't too far from the cameras.

Therefore, those in larger homes might pass on this unit, unless the nursery or kids room is somewhat close to the monitor.

It lacks some features

At $250, this Vava baby monitor isn't cheap, and so it's vava home camera review bad it's missing a few "nice to have" features.
